About VTWF

Depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder are the most common mental health conditions among first responders and veterans, often leading to divorce, alcohol and substance abuse, and financial ruin, amongst other troubling maladaptive coping techniques.  All too often, stress related mental health conditions end with these valiant human beings taking their own lives.  Many studies have highlighted that first responders, military members, and veterans are more likely to kill themselves than be killed in the line of duty.

More times than not, our first responders avoid the help they desperately need for fear that by highlighting their mental health issues among peers and superiors, their careers may be jeopardized .

The stigma surrounding mental health treatment exists within the first responder and military culture to the point they believe they may be skipped over for important promotions, placed on leave or medically retired if they speak about the issues they have seen and continue to face in their own lives.  There is an element of secrecy and insulation to the culture that serves as a barrier to seeking help from within their own agencies.

At Valor to Wellness Foundation, we recognize the unique challenges faced by first responders and military personnel who encounter extreme stress and trauma. Our foundation was established by individuals who have not only served in these roles, but who have also worked alongside professionals experienced in trauma support and therapy, providing support to other first responders. Having that experience, we also understand that the right treatment can quickly become a financial burden and often an additional deterrent from seeking the care needed. When untreated, mental health issues manifest into bigger issues including deterioration of relationships, trust, family, careers and can often lead to self destruction.  VTWF was founded with all of this in mind.

The Valor to Wellness Foundation is dedicated to providing the necessary resources and to help those affected by their traumatic experiences, ensuring they receive the professional help needed, in a confidential setting, to navigate the long-term impacts on their careers and personal relationships.  Our mission is to seek donations from the community and the businesses our heroes protect, so that we can help protect our heroes.
